Inductive Modelling and Artificial Neural Nets in Simulation
Chair: Pavel Kordik, Czech Technical University (CZ)
Abstract: Many applications in simulation or control involve a nonlinear model capable of learning. Such model is frequently represented by a neural network with predefined topology such as Multi-layered Perceptron. Data produced during the simulation are used to train the model. Changing environment, dynamic processes or a priori unknown problem complexity pose a threat to the model. Its fixed topology can be a limitation preventing us to train reliable, unbiased model with good generalization properties. More efficient approach is to construct a model with the topology adapted to the problem, which is being solved. Identified complexity of the model should reflect the complexity of the problem. Recently, several techniques based on self-organization of neural network structure and also optimization of its parameters (weights, biases and coefficients) has been introduced. Namely techniques of neural network synthesis using cellular encoding, hybrid nature inspired optimization methods, genetic programming and similar approaches will be central topics of the workshop. An alternative approach, where topology of models is adapted during learning is called inductive modeling, the GMDH or self-organizing modeling. The workshop will be focused namely (but not only) towards applications of inductive models and neural networks in control and simulation.

Modelling and Simulation in Medicine and Pharmacy
Chair: Maja Atanasijevic-Kunc, University of Ljubljana (Slovenia)
Abstract: Modelling and simulation have become a very strong tool for understanding and solving problems also in the field of medicine and pharmacy. In this situation, it makes sense to discuss the approaches and diversity of methods and tools which have proved to be important for learning, studying epidemiology, natural course of the diseases and effects of the treatment. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any doubts regarding the integration of your work in our session.
